A Geek and her Babies

How one geeky Mom combines technology and old fashioned values to raise her babies.

Disney Vacation Day 1 March 19, 2009

Ok, so I told you we would go back to what’s going on with my family, and what better way than to tell you about my Disney Vacation.

From Disney

My wonderful mother decided that for Christmas this year she would give us each a 7 day trip to Disney World Resorts. Now, in my family that means 14 people, 8 of them in the under 12 set (Our two oldest children didn’t go. Eldest is still in Korea, and Miss Teen lives with her mother and was there two years ago).

We arrived on a Sunday and spent the day playing in the pool and just settling in. We knew we had to get up early to make our breakfast reservations with Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger.

Let me tell you, getting 14 people to go anywhere as a group is a feat of organization, but in Disney at 9 am it’s almost an impossibility. Thousands of people are going the same way you are, and none of them care about the fact that you are trying to stay with a group. You just end up grabbing the closest kid and hanging on for dear life. Oh, and keep the baby strapped into a stroller no matter what. As the day goes on you can lighten up a little bit, but it gets crazy when the park opens and closes.

As you can see, we had a wonderful breakfast and started our character greeting. The Baby loved seeing the characters he watches every day. Bubby wasn’t so sure at first, but he decided he liked it later, once we got him an autograph book.

We spent the day exploring half of the Magic Kingdom with the rest of the family until we realized that my purse was a poor method of carrying our stuff, and headed back to the hotel to change bags and give the kids a rest. After first stopping to see one of the many parades, of course.

The evening our smaller family (the two youngest boys and Hubby and I) spent our time Hollywood Studios which quickly became our favorite park. The scenery alone was enough, but then you add the shows and the rides, and the movie geeks in us were in heaven. Bubby really enjoyed the Star Tours ride and the Indiana Jones show. And the Baby got the Playhouse Disney show (but that’s for later in the week!).

From Disney

The only thing we did at Hollywood Studios is see the show Fantasmic. It was quite a long wait, and the kids were very tired by the time we got to it, but it was well worth it. Lasers, water, fireworks, fire, and Mickey! What could be better? When it was all over Bubby told me it was his favorite thing of the day. Even the Baby woke up and oohed and ahhed with the rest of us.

Well, I’ll leave you with that, and tell you more tomorrow.

G’night.
